Best you'll find in these parts....not that there's much competition in Fork Union. Food was actually pretty good despite minimal meat on a steak n cheese sub I ordered.

Sal used to own Vito's in Cumberland, VA (The poor Cumberland. Not the pretty Cumberland. That one is in Maryland.) about a /2 hour south of this place. He moved back north and when he returned opened this restaurant. My Italian friends complain that this is not really Italian. But around here, it IS Italian. I mean, it's not chitlings and fried chicken! I like the Philly cheese salad (so, okay, that one isn't Italian). Basically a Philly cheese laid out on greens. OMG, it's delicious. Good pizza, too. Mom always had the chicken Alfredo which was huge and also tasty, though maybe too much sauce. Okay, it was too much sauce. Prices are good. If they get busy the servers are a little slow but it's because they get busy! No problem. Just hav to e patient. I f you're a single, there tv's to keep you occupied. If it's winter, sit away from the front door or you will freeze your Aunt Fanny off.

I gotta say the pizza here are good, but stay away from anything else ! I had the the veal lemione ! First of all , I just don't think people from fork Union orders this dish! The veal was tender but very salty . They served it with pasta in red sauce ! Veal in lemon sauce should never be served with a pasta in red sauce ! They have no clue! Now for reference : the two other sal's restaurants serve pasta in a lemon sauce with a lot better veal! Lesson learned, never order anything other than pizza and salad ! I still like this place! The waitress was good ! I still liked the local vibe and enjoy the pizzas !

I'm not sure why everyone isn't raving about Sal's on Yelp. I went last night with family-- We are all from out of town. I live in DC- area, and other family members from New York and San Francisco, CA. We've eaten at restaurants all over the world. I am completely serious when I say... I have never eaten pizza this good at any restaurant ANYWHERE. The crust is fresh-- apparently made fresh daily. Really, really impressive pizza, and I lived in New Jersey for much of my life-- true Italian pizza heaven. Salad was just okay, the other dishes were very good, the the Pizza-- wow. And the prices-- well, I loved them. Portions are big, so order judiciously. The owner came out and introduced himself. From family in Sicily-- was taught how how make food from his Dad. These guys are good, seriously.

I was really surprised at how good the food is at Sal's. It's an out of the way place near Fork Union Military Academy. There is always too much food. My wife orders the Kid's Baked Speghetti and carries some home. Pizzas are delicious and the Seafood Fettucini is awesome. Bread comes with the Meal. I'd hold off and use it for dipping any remaining sauce from your entree.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
